University of the Philippines ranked 95th place in the list of best universities in Asia according to Times Higher Education (THE) University Rankings which ranks 4th in Southeast Asia and 1st in the Philippines. To qualify in the ranking a university must have at least 150 research studies between 2013 and 2017.
There are five areas that THE is using when ranking the universities namely: teaching or the learning environment, research like volume, income and reputation, citations or research influence, international outlook and industry income.
UP ranks 95th from the previous 156thand it is only the university in the Philippines to be ranked. THE are using performance indicators when ranking to provide the most comprehensive and balanced comparisons, trusted by students, academics, university leaders and governments.
Topping the list of best universities in Asia are Tsinghua University in China, followed by National University of Singapore in Singapore, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in Hong Kong, University of Hong Kong, Peking University in China, Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, Chinese University of Hong Kong Hong Kong, University of Tokyo in Japan, Seoul National University of South Korea, and Sungkyunkwan University also in Korea.
