Construction of the Mindanao Railway System to start by early 2020
The construction of the Mindanao Railway System would start on the first quarter of 2020 according to the Mindanao Development Authority, reported by Businessmirror.
Construction of the first phase of the railway will link Tagum City, Davao City and Digos City.
The bidding was already scheduled in November 2019 and the groundbreaking of the railway to be held early next year, per Asst. Secretary Eymard Eje of Department of Transportation (DOTr).
Mindanao Railway System has a budget of P82.9 billion through a resolution pushed by the Infrastructure Coordinating Council of the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA).
The area “could be transformed into major food production and tourism areas if connected to the railway system” said MinDA Chairman Emmanuel Pinol.
“This would boost the cargo and passenger load for the train,” as he request to add the coastal areas of Surigao down to Davao Occidental and Sultan Kudarat province.
According to the report, it in only under President Rodrigo Duterte that the Mindanao Railway was finally approved by the NEDA under Build, Build, Build program. The first phase is expected to finish by 2021.
