A 27 year old Filipino marine engineer was injured while aboard a Liberian-registered cargo vessel and was transported to a Taiwan hospital for treatment, reported by Central News Agency.
The cargo ship "E.R. Bayonne" was sailing through Taiwan waters Friday evening, issued a call for help at around 7 pm according to the Hualien coast guard which responded immediately.
E.R. Bayonne call for help saying that one of its crew members had suffered serious burns in an accident in the engine room.
The Hualien coast guard sent a boat out to the cargo vessel, which is about 26 nautical miles off Hualien, and the patient was taken back to port and then to Hualien Tzu Chi Hospital at around 11 p.m. Friday, said by the head of the Hualien coast guard base.
