Taiwan 2nd in whole Asia in terms of lung cancer; North Korea being the highest


Taiwan has the 2nd-highest incidence of lung cancer in Asia and being the 8th highest in the world for women patients according to a report by the Formosa Cancer Foundation (FCF).


Taiwan has a ratio of 36 per 100,000 people with lung cancer, second to North Korea at 36.2 per 100,000 people.

Cancer has been the leading cause of death in Taiwan since 1982, about 10,000 people die of lung cancer each year in Taiwan. 50 percent of people who develop lung cancer in Taiwan are non-smokers.

Cancer’s growing threat to the Taiwan is attributable to complex factors, several of which include smoking, dietary changes, lack of physical activities and the prevalent chewing of betel nuts according to 
Formosa Cancer Foundation.


The FCF works to reduce cancer incidence and mortality through public education that focuses on promoting healthy life style, early detection and raising the quality of cancer care and treatment.
