Indonesian President Joko Widodo has all praises to Roger Casugay as he heard the news of the surfer just save the life of one of his people in the men's longboard competition at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.
The president tweets his appreciation in Indonesian language:
"Winning the competition and upholding sportmanship is important, but humanity is above all." President Wido Jikoko said.
"My appreciation to Roger Casugay, a Filipino surfer who gave up the golden opportunity to help Indonesian athlete who fell in the race. Greetings from Indonesia," he added.
The appreciation of President Joko Widodo to La Union's local surfer was all over the news in Indonesia.
Roger Casugay saves surfer Arip Nurhidayat from drowning as a massive swell hit the Indonesian and snapped his surfer's leash. Witnesses from the shore described his board being thrown up in the air from the force of the wave.
