The Republic Act (RA) 10699, or the “National Athletes and Coaches Benefits and Incentives Act,” would reward athletes who have podium finishes upon winning any event, gold medalist now will receive an amount of P850,000.
Under the RA 10699, gold, silver and bronze individual medalists in the SEA Games are entitled to receive P300,000, P150,000 and P60,000, respectively.
POC will double the amount incentive for the winning athletes in a remark by POC president Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino.
"We, at the POC, will try our best to give the same cash incentive that the government will provide to our athletes based on the law,” said Tolentino.
Apart from the law and POC, the House of Representatives will offer additional cash rewards to athletes who win gold medals in the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.
SEA Games gold performers will receive their cash bonuses during the POC Christmas party on Dec. 17 in an undisclosed venue.
