Daniela dela Pisa won the first gymnastics gold medal for Philippines at the South East Asian Games 2019. The teenager had fought off ovarian cancer when she was just four years old.
The Cebuana native won the gold medal of hoop category of the rhythmic gymnastics competition. She followed it up with bronze finishes in balls and clubs.

"Training at hard work lang po,” said Dela Pisa as she credited her three-month training in Hungary under Hungarian coach Dora Vass.
Dela Pisa comes from a family of gymnasts that include mom Darlene and uncle Allen CastaƱeda, a national team coach for men’s artistic gymnastics.
