The 111-121km mark on Provincial Highway No. 61, which crosses Tongxiao Township in Miaoli County was voted the most scenic highway according to the Directorate General of Highways (DGH).
The hilly and curvy features a stretch of 10km allowing road users to capture sunsets facing the Taiwan Strait. It is more commonly known as the West Coast Expressway, that sits between mountains and ocean.
The voting is to encourage road trips and boost local tourism in Taiwan. The Miaoli rod edged out 30 candidates to receive the title of most scenic highway section.
The Miaoli road has a total of 34,839 votes out of a total of 210,000 during a one-month voting period.
Second place went to another section of the expressway in Xinwu District, Taoyuan. The third spot went to the elevated section and Jinlun Bridge in Taimali Township, Taitung County.
