HTC Corp., a Taiwan-based smartphone brand and had confirmed market speculation about the new batch of layoffs on ita employees, HTC said in a statement in a report by CNA.
HTC is planning redundancies in a bid to allow its smartphone and virtual reality (VR) businesses to move forward.
The company did not disclose any further details of the number of employees who will be affected by the plan, or give an exact timeframe for the redundancies.
Despite the reported layoffs, the company said that since the Lunar New Year holiday is coming in January, the affected employees will receive year-end bonuses.
Currently, HTC has a workforce of more than 3,000. The company already layoff and removed 2,250 jobs in 2015, which was followed by another cut of 1,500 jobs in July of 2018 of last year.
