The first imported case of Wuhan coronavirus or the pneumonia virus now confirmed by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Tuesday evening (Jan. 21), Taiwan News reported.
In a press release, CDC announced the that a 50-year-old woman from southern Taiwan has indeed contracted a new virus from Wuhan, China.
The woman is experiencing symptoms of the disease, including fever, cough, and shortness of breath. The woman had flown in from Wuhan, China.
The virus was named 2019-novel coronavirus (2019-CoV). Chest x-ray showed that she had pneumonia and the results of a test for 2019-CoV came back positive on Tuesday.
Airport quarantine personnel dispatched her to the isolation ward of a hospital for medical treatment, Taiwan called on the public not to panic.
