Animal health officials say more than 32,000 chickens have been culled at a poultry farm in Kou-Hu Township, Yunlin County following confirmation of an outbreak of avian flu or bird flu.
According to the county's Animal Disease Control Center, the culling followed a higher than normal death rate of black silkie chickens.

Tests were carried out and traces of the H5N2 and H5N5 strains of bird flu were found at the farm. Both strains of the avian flu are highly pathogenic.
This will be the fourth time this month that animal health officials have been forced to disinfect a poultry farm in Yunlin County due to an outbreak of bird flu.
