Seasonal influenza in Taiwan claimed lives of 14 people in a span of one week raising the total death toll to 74 in five months since October 2019 according to Centers for Disease Control (CDC).
The tally was in the week of Feb. 2, 2020 where a total of 82,856 people sought medical treatment for flu-like symptoms at hospitals and clinics around Taiwan.
The CDC mentioned that this is the highest number of deaths and patients in nearly five years.
Additionally, none of the 14 people who died last week of seasonal influenza had received the flu vaccine said CDC physician Lin Yung-ching.
Of the 14 deaths last week, a 23-year-old office worker in central Taiwan os recorded the youngest fatality who had a chronic lung disease and blood disorder.
