Taiwan on Sunday (Feb 16) reported the nation's first death from the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).

He developed a cough on January 27 and went to the hospital for a short breath on February 3. He is currently diagnosed with pneumonia. On the same day, he was admitted to a negative pressure intensive care unit and died in the evening of February 15 due to pneumonia and sepsis.
The patient has no recent overseas travel history and no known contact with COVID-19 patients, Minister of Health and Welfare Chen Shih-chung said, adding that the authorities are still working to determine how he became infected.
