Hsinchu-based company shuts down after one employee tests positive with coronavirus


A confirmed case of coronavirus in Hsinchu County has caused great concern in the science and technology industry. The employee is currently treated in a negative pressure isolation ward.


The Hsinchu County Government issued a statement last March 15th, pointed out that there was a confirmed case of coronavirus in Hsinchu County, the patient is one of the six announced cases last Sunday in Taiwan, reported by Central News Agency.

According to reports, the employee had a vacation and travelled abroad in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic. The company temporarily shuts down and put its employees to 14-day quarantine.

This would be the first confirmed case of coronavirus in Hsinchu County has aroused great concern in the science and technology industry in Hsinchu.  

Companies like TSMC and MediaTek reacts and advised all of the employees to prevent unnecessary business trips and implement employee health management.


According to the Hsinchu Science Park Management Bureau, in addition to maintaining strict access control, manufacturers in the zone are also increasing the temperature measurement of employees and visitors, requiring the use of masks, and visitors try to avoid entering the plant area. (Photo CNA)
