Italy has again registered an increase in the number of new coronavirus deaths in the country. From yesterday to today, 753 people died victims of the covid-19, 151 more than registered from Sunday to Monday (602).
Since the beginning of the pandemic, according to data published by Corriere della Sera, 69,176 people have been infected with the coronavirus in Italy. Of these, 6,820 died and another 8,236 recovered. Today, the country has 54,030 still ill.
Of the patients with symptoms, 3,396 are in intensive care units (ICUs) and 28,697 are in isolation at home, according to Corriere.
Despite the rise in deaths, there was some evidence that the coronavirus infection rate may be slowing thanks to national quarantine measures.
Health officials are poring over every new piece of data to see whether two weeks of bans and closures have made a dent in the crisis.
The Lombardy region, whose capital is Milan, leads the number of cases (30,703), including dead and already cured. Emilia-Romagna (9,254), from the capital Bologna; Veneto (5,948), from Venice; and Piemonte (5,515), from Turin, appear shortly thereafter.
