No wonder the Department of Health (DOH) encouraged the public to eat a lot of malunggay amid the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) threat in the Philippines.
Nutritionist Salina Teo explained that malunggay contains certain properties that would help protect the body from the virus. "Makakatulong siya, dahil mataas siya sa Vitamin A, at ang purpose talaga nito ay for immunity," she said.
Teo added that malunggay is rich in minerals such as calcium, iron, and potassium, and also contains a “good amount of protein” and fiber.
Malunggay will not cure or prevent the new coronavirus disease but it can help boost the immune system and reduce one’s chances of acquiring the illness.
Also known as Moringa oleifera or moringa, malunggay has been known to help treat multiple diseases such as diabetes, heart ailments, diarrhea, skin diseases, and others.
