339 doctors and 242 nurses tested positive for COVID-19 in the Philippines: DOH
In a virtual presser, Health Assistant Secretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said 339 doctors and 242 nurses have contracted the deadly coronavirus disease in the country.
The Department of Health (DOH) also announced that the country now has a total of 766 health workers who tested positive for COVID-19 and 22 of them have succumbed from the disease.
The Philippines now holds a case fatality rate (CFR) for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) of 6.6%. With 766 infected healthcare workers , no other health care professions were mentioned as part of the count.
The latest number is more than thrice the figure the DOH reported last April 8, when it said 252 health workers tested positive including 152 doctors and 63 nurses.
The Philippine Medical Association earlier asserted fewer health personnel would have died from COVID-19 if there have been more personal protective equipment available to them.
May the love and mercy of God help them fight and enable them to overcome this silent killer. Let us do our part by not being an added burden to the other frontliners who are coping hard to save lives.
