Taiwan prepares millions of medical graded masks to be sent to severe virus-hit countries

President Tsai Ing-wen announced last week that Taiwan will donate 10 million masks to countries with severe coronavirus-hit (COVID-19) countries.

Countries include the United States, countries in Europe and in Asia. Minister of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) posted on twitter the packaging boxes with printed "Taiwan can help."

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has recently indicated that it will donate a total of 7 million masks to the European Union including Italy, Spain, Germany, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, the Czech Republic and Poland, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, to assist these European countries.

Foreign minister Joseph Wu also tweeted on the evening of the 8th that he was busy packing masks for the severely affected areas these days, "Allies and friends, Taiwan is here! We will face the challenge together!"

Seven of the 18 countries in the Southbound Policy program had already informed Taiwan of their need for masks, MOFA said, including the Philippines, India, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam and Myanmar.

Taiwan’s actions in containing this pandemic have been widely recognized internationally. As the outbreak continues to spread globally, and the number of deaths keeps growing, Taiwan is sharing its experience with other countries.

MOFA stated that to efficiently implement international humanitarian assistance, it will maintain close contact with other ministries and agencies so as to draw up more appropriate assistance and cooperation plans.
