Chinese magazine releases video claiming China could invade Taiwan in just 24 hours
On the same day of President Tsai Ing-Wen's inauguration ceremony, Chinese military magazine Warship Knowledge released a computer simulation video showing that in just only 24 hours China could crash the island nation, Taiwan.
As reported by the Liberty Times, the 11-minute video showed in Chinese social media platform Weibo simulates an attack on Taiwan divided into three stages namely forced isolation, sea and air strikes, and landing operations.
The first stage aims to stop the United States and other countries from coming to Taiwan. Elimination of Taiwan's command, early warning, air defense, and coastal defense systems would take place in the second stage until it creates a favorable condition for landing operations to secure Taiwan's harbors and airports for follow-up troop deployments.
According to researcher at Taiwan Strategy Research Association Su Tzu-yun, the video was overly optimistic the it made Taiwan's army look like it was made up of plastic soldiers and that its defenses were made out of paper.
Defense Ministry Spokesperson Shih Shun-wen said that the Chinese Communist Party has never given up its ambition to take down Taiwan by force, PTS News reported. He added that Taiwan's military has the confidence and strength to protect the country and ensure its security.
