Philippines sets new record high of COVID-19 recoveries at 112, bringing the total to 1,618
The Department of Health (DOH) on Thursday (May 7), announced 112 more patients who have recovered from coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), bringing the total recoveries to 1,618.
The agency also reported 10,343 cases of COVID-19 as 339 more individuals have been infected. Meanwhile, 27 more patients who have succumbed from the disease have been recorded, raising the death toll to 685.
DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said, the number of new cases is expected to rise again as the country ramps up its testing efforts. To date, 130,990 individuals have been tested.
“Nais kong bigyang diin na di natin ito dapat ikabahala ang pagtaas ng bilang ng confirmed cases kasabay ng paglakas ng testing capacity ay isang indication na mas lumalakas pa ang response measure at mas nagiging aggressive tayo na mas makapag-test, detect and isolate,” Vergeire said.
The lockdown put in place to slow the transmission of virus in major urban areas and other high-risk provinces is expected to end on May 15. It will be followed by a gradual easing of restrictions.
