COVID-19 pandemic brings 'new and dangerous phase' in the world: WHO
The coronavirus pandemic headed fast in a "new and dangerous phase" as the number of cases continue to accelerate and people are getting tired of lockdowns, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), Friday (June 19).
According to WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the pandemic is getting worst as the number of coronavirus cases reported to the UN health agency on Thursday, (June 18), hit 150,000, the highest single record so far.
“The world is in a new and dangerous phase. Many people are understandably fed up with being at home. Countries are understandably eager to open up their societies and economies,” said
Ghebreyesus.
“But the virus is still spreading fast, it’s still deadly and most people are still susceptible,” he added.
To date, the virus has infected more than 8.5 million all over the world with a death toll of 454,000 ever since the outbreak began in China late last year, based from the tally compiled by Agence France Presse.
