Opening of cross-strait flights to 6 Chinese cities recommends by Taiwan's MOTC
Flights from six additional Chinese cities namely Shenzhen, Chongqing, Qingdao, Ningbo, Guangzhou, and Changsha are currently being discussed to resume in the first stage of normalizing cross-strait air travel, the Ministry of Transportation and Communications announced on Monday (June 8).
The Liberty Times reported that at the peak of the coronavirus pandemic, only cross-strait flight routes from five airports in Shanghai, Xiamen, Beijing, and Chengdu were back to its operation starting February 10. Meanwhile, all other Flights to Taiwan from all other Chinese airports are still suspended.
Flights from all airports across the strait will only be allowed in the second stage but the official date is yet to be announced.
Before the final decision of resumption of flights, the plan must still be discussed with the Central Epidemic Command Center and the Mainland Affairs Council, according to the ministry. It also mentioned that airlines will continue to encounter losses if they cannot carry passengers before the pandemic has slowed down.
