UK to roll out 30 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine across Britain by September
The British government on Sunday (July 19), announced that the U.K. would roll out 30 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine as early as September, if clinical trials would be successful.
It added, that the U.K. would be the first country to be given access to a vaccine being developed at Oxford University which has entered an agreement with AstraZeneca, the company that would focus on the manufacture and distribution of the vaccine globally.
Last April, AstraZeneca made a remark saying that researchers at the Jenner Institute and Oxford Vaccine Group would know by July whether their vaccine – which began human trials on April 24 – was effective in preventing Covid-19 infections.
Meanwhile, U.K. Business Secretary Alok Sharma revealed that £65.5 million ($79 million) will be alloted for AstraZeneca's production of 30 million doses of the vaccine available for people in the U.K. by September if trials were successful.
The expected September roll out is part of the agreement between AstraZeneca and U.K. to manufacture 100 million doses of vaccine across Britain.
