18 OFWs from Taiwan tested positive of COVID-19 upon arrival in the Philippines


18 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) have tested positive for COVID-19 after returning to the Philippines from Taiwan announced by Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) on Wednesday (Sept. 23).


The 18 Filipinos consists of eight men and ten women having worked as domestic caregivers, factory employees, and fishery workers while in Taiwan confirmed by Minister of Health and Welfare and CECC head Chen Shih-chung, Taiwan News reported.

All 18 patients tested positive upon arrival in the Philippines and the health department has identified 372 people who came in contact with them while in Taiwan.

The positivity rate among passengers arriving in the Philippines from Taiwan was significantly higher than in other countries, which ranged between 0.005 percent and 0.055 percent.

The CECC will continue to track the condition of the Taiwan contacts of the Filipino cases and maintain communication with its counterparts overseas.

Additionally, there is one Japanese in his 50s who also tested positive for COVID-19 after returning to Japan who recently came from Taiwan.
