Number of OFWs in Taiwan getting deported and penalized due to drunk driving E-Bike
Number of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) are ordered to leave Taiwan for driving or riding electric bikes under the influence of alcohol.
High penalty of fine or a possible of termination of contract that leads to deportation can be given to any migrant workers in Taiwan that break any law of traffic and safety.
Drunk driving in Taiwan may lead to imprisonment and fine ranging from NT$30,000 to NT$60,000, the amount may go higher if damage to others is done.
Most migrant workers in Taiwan are not aware that drunk riding an electric bike is a criminal offense until being caught.
It has become a common practice for the courts to send notices of legal violations of migrant workers to the MOL, which results in them ultimately being forced to leave the country because they no longer have valid permits to be in Taiwan.
