The Department of Energy (DOE) has announced that it is set to submit a nuclear power study in the Philippines to President Rodrigo Duterte on December.
“The nuclear [power] national position study ay isusumite kay Pangulo under his executive order by December,” said Energy Undersecretary Felix Fuentebella during the Laging Handa public briefing last Saturday (November 7).
Under Executive Order 116 issued on July, President Rodrigo Duterte already mandated the creation of Nuclear Energy Program Inter-Agency Committee headed by the Department of Energy together with the Department of Science and Technology as vice-chairperson.
The inter-agency is intended to conduct a study for the adoption of a National Position on a Nuclear Energy Program (NEP).
The focus of the study is the assessment of the viability of introducing nuclear power into the State's energy mix, taking into consideration the economic, security, and environmental implications, and engagement of the public and relevant stakeholders; among others.
