MECO Taichung starts downsizing as usual work will transfer to MECO Taipei and Kaohsiung

 

MECO Chairman and Resident Representative Angelito Banayo told Taiwan's Central News Agency Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO)-Taichung extension office will start downsizing.


Only labor-related services rendered by the Philippine Overseas Labor Office and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration will remain available.


All concerns relating to consular, notarial and assistance to nationals, as well as overseas absentee voting, will be diverted to either MECO's Taipei or Kaohsiung offices, Banayo noted.


The said that the geographical considerations is alao the reason that the office will downsize even as it has more work load than in MECO Kaohsiung.


Passport renewal operations will now be transferred to the other two offices. 


The downsizing of MECO-Taichung is due to financial difficulties caused by the pandemic, which has significantly reduced the number of visa applications, CNA reported.
