Due to the current regulation, industrial migrant workers can only stay in Taiwan for 12 working years as the country ready to discuss in extending the 12 year limit according to Minister of Economic Affairs Wang Mei-hua.
Currently, meetings are being discussed whether to break the current regulation and extend the 12-year limit. The inter-ministerial meeting is under discussion, but there is no final decision.
The minister revealed that the migration policy may be further coordinated and loosened, breaking the current 12-year restriction in Taiwan. This will retain existing migrant workers.
She also explained that the limit for foreign migrant workers can be up to 12 years in Taiwan. It is currently being discussed whether there are other ideas to make these migrant workers not subject to the 12-year limit. Because it is a very important topic, there will be inter-ministerial discussions now.
According to Article 52 of the Employment Service Act, migrant workers engaged in domestic work shall not exceed 14 years of work in Taiwan while migrant workers engaged in other types of work like factory workers shall not exceed 12 years.
