A three-year-old child who returned from the United States is Taiwan's youngest confirmed case of COVID-19 according to Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).
On 12.12, the CECC reported eight imported cases of COVID-19 including the three-year-old kid and the mother of the child.
The mother is a Taiwanese in her 30s, who lives in the US and returned to Taiwan with her child, according to Philip Lo, deputy head of the CECC’s medical response division.
The child might be infected thr father which reported experiencing a headache after taking them to the airport or the child had played in an airport playground, so the child might have been directly infected by other children or indirectly by interacting with contaminated items, Lo explained.
The deputy said that the risk of children with COVID-19 developing serious complications is much lower than in adults. (CNA photo)
