On Saturday, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) called for the registration of more Filipinos of voting age, extending their registration days to Saturdays from Feb. 20 as it aims to enlist 4 million more voters ahead of the 2022 presidential elections.
“Starting Feb. 20, the registration will be until Saturdays. You may now register on Saturdays from 8 a.m to 5 p.m. Let’s not waste the opportunity to be part of democracy.,” said COMELEC spokesperson James Jimenez.
In an interview, Jimenez said the voter registration turnout is still very low, Since Sept. 1, around 1.3 million have registered and we need to register about 4 million more.
Registration of voters was postponed last year for months because of travel limitations related to the pandemic. It resumed in September 2020 and ends this year until the end of September.
The spokesperson for Comelec assured the public that their workplaces are secure and that there are health measures in place. He urged those who were going to register to wear face masks and face shields and to ensure the records required for registration were taken with them.
He also repeated that the first move is to go to irehistrocomelec.gov.ph and complete the application form, Download the form and bring the scanned back-to-back copy to the Comelec center along with other documentation such as a legitimate government ID displaying residency details on a long bond file. If there is no residence details in the valid ID, they can carry other documents such as billing evidence.
