Taiwan announced that British man in his 70s died from COVID-19 in the country after contracting the new mutant COVID-19 strain from the U.K. prior to arriving in Taiwan.
The British man os the first foreigner to die from the virus in Taiwan announced by health minister and CECC head Chen Shih-chung.
He is also the first case in Taiwan to die to the variant of the coronavirus first detected in the U.K. The man was declared dead on Wednesday.
CECC advisor Chang Shan-chwen said that the man was critically ill and had been placed on a ventilator. He added that the man's advanced age, cardiovascular problems, and relative obesity are factors to his death.
Taiwan government will offer assistance to the man's family members in managing funeral arrangements and other related matters.
