Vice President Leni Robredo greeted President Rodrigo Duterte on his 76th birthday on Sunday, wishing him advice and good health.
Robredo said this on her BISErbisyongLENI radio program, in which she expressed her hope that Duterte's decisions for the country will be driven by wisdom.
"I am always saying that he is always in my prayers right? Guidance, wisdom must be present in his decisions for our country to avoid half-baked results. So I hope that he is guided with his decisions because the success of the President is also the success of our country." Robredo said.
Robredo also prayed for the Chief Executive's wellbeing as a result of the unexpected rise in coronavirus disease infections.
"I wish him good health, particularly these days. It is difficult nowadays because not only seniors, but also children, become ill. My wish for the President is for him to be in good health, and I wish the same for all of us." Robredo said on Interview.
After questioning the evaluation of the Sinovac vaccines, the first vaccines to be administered throughout the world, a critic of the government's pandemic response angered Duterte.
"Bakit ako? I would give them the worst? Mamatay ka na. Hindi ko iwanan ‘yong mga frontliners and you do not need to really be redundant about it," Duterte had responded.
Duterte's birthday wish, according to Palace spokesman Harry Roque, was for the COVID-19 pandemic to stop, as more than 700,000 Filipinos had contracted the disease and the economy had been severely harmed.
