6.2 magnitude earthquake in Taiwan, 2nd strongest quake since 1990

Hualien was shaken twice in 3 minutes from 10:11 to 10:14 in the middle of the night yesterday. Whole of Taiwan felt that the "national alarms" went off wildly, terrifying many people. The two earthquakes were 5.8 and 6.2 respectively.  The epicenters were all in Shoufeng Township, Hualien.

Chen Guochang, director of the Earthquake Observation and Reporting Center of the Central Weather Bureau, said that the 6.2 earthquake was the largest earthquake on Taiwan this year.

Additionally, this year's earthquakes were much more frequent than in previous years; the earthquake was also the second strongest since the record in 1990.

Chen said that the magnitude of 5.8 was a foreshock. Three minutes later, another magnitude of 6.2 earthquake occurred. It can be said that the magnitude of the 6.3 earthquake location is similar on the first one.

If you look at the location and depth, there is a little difference, but they are all within the same range, so they are considered to have occurred in the same structure. Two earthquakes with a scale of more than 6 have occurred this year.
