Due to the heightened COVID-19 situation, foreign nationals whose alien resident certificates (ARC) are about to expire will receive an automatic 30-day extension with immediate effect, the National Immigration Agency (NIA) said Friday.
When the epidemic alert level in Taiwan is lowered to Level 2, ARC holders will have up to 30 days to visit the nearest immigration service office and renew their residence application form.
According to the immigration agency, the automatic extension will be continuously applied until Taiwan's COVID-19 alert is reduced from the current Level 3.
Meanwhile, foreign nationals who entered Taiwan visa-free, on a visitor or landing visa, on or before March 21 last year and have been unable to return home because of COVID-19, will also receive 30-day extensions, the NIA said.
However, as soon as the COVID-19 level is lowered, such visitors will have 10 days to visit the nearest immigration office to complete the paperwork for an extension.
Foreign nationals who fulfill these requirements will not be considered as having overstayed their visas. -Central News Agency
