Pegatron Corp., one of Taiwan's largest contract PC makers, said that one of its employees has tested positive for COVID-19 as an alert among PC producers has been raised to contain the disease.
Pegatron said it was informed by health authorities on Sunday that the employee, who worked in the company's headquarters in Guandu in the northwestern part of Taipei, was a weak positive for the disease and a second test is being done to confirm the result.
Pegatron, which counts Apple among its clients, said it began disinfecting its headquarters Sunday night after getting the news.
The company said the infected employee rented an apartment in a suburban area and commuted to the company's headquarters every day without having to enter the city center.
The employee also worked in one of the smaller buildings in Pegatron's headquarters complex, the company said, suggesting that the person may not have been exposed to many people.
Pegatron had already put in place a rotational working schedule last week and vowed to strictly carry it out while continuing to follow public health guidelines to fend off the spread of the virus, the company said. -Central News Agency
