Taiwan reports 180 new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases, 89 in Taipei, 75 in New Taipei


Taiwan's Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) raised the COVID-19 alert level for Taipei and New Taipei cities to Level 3.


Health Minister Chen Shih-chung has announced 180 new domestically transmitted COVID-19 cases and five new imported cases. The cases include 89 in Taipei, 75 in New Taipei, 6 in Changhua, four each in Yilan and Taoyuan and one each in Taichung and Keelung. 


A Level 3 alert, which has been in imposed in Taiwan for the first time, stops short of a lockdown and goes into effect when more than three community clusters are confirmed in a week or over 10 domestic cases of unknown origin are reported in a single day.


Masks must be worn at all times outdoors, cancellation of outdoor gatherings of 10+ people and indoor gatherings of 5+ people.


Apart from essential services, law enforcement, medical treatment and government, all places of business and public venues must close.


At places of business or public venues that remain open, mask wearing and social distancing is required.


In neighborhoods where community transmission has occurred, residents must stay within defined a perimeter and comply with COVID-19 testing. All public gatherings and school classes within the neighborhoods are suspended.
