Taiwan approved the emergency use and production of Medigen Vaccine Biologics Corp's COVID-19 vaccine. Production of the vaccine gets green light and could be available by August.
It is a major step in Taiwan's plans to develop its own vaccines to protect against the coronavirus. Developing its own vaccine has been a major goal of Taiwan's government.
Studies shown that antibodies using Medigen created by the shot have been "no worse than" those created by AstraZeneca's vaccine.
Medigen COVID-19 vaccine is designed for use in adults aged 20 or older, who will get two doses of the vaccine 28 days apart to build protection against COVID-19.
Taiwan still ordered some 20 million shots from Moderna, AstraZeneca and the Covax Facility global sharing scheme.
