Taipei has been named one of the World's Greatest Places by Time Magazine in its 2021 edition of the list, alongside 99 other destinations, including Antarctica and Osaka.
According to Time, the opening of the National Center of Photography and Images, as well as the Hotel Resonance Taipei, which "boasts a boxy black-and-white exterior designed to evoke frames on a film roll" have further burnished "Taipei's credentials as a cultural capital.
The Taipei Performing Arts Center -- "with its striking architecture, defined by a giant silver sphere protruding from one side of the building -- seems set to become a city landmark" when it opens next year, the magazine said.
Visitors to Taipei can also enjoy the nearby Yangmingshan National Park, which was named the world's first Urban Quiet Park in June 2020, the magazine notes.
Other destinations in the 2021 edition of the list include: Antarctica, Osaka, Costa Rica and the Gold Coast in Australia.
The magazine said nominations for the list were solicited from its network of correspondents, and that this year's list serves as a tribute to the people and businesses in the travel industry who adapted and innovated in the face of the challenges they faced in the past year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. - Central News Agency
