Some OFWs in Taiwan have fallen victim to the modus of scammers by selling cheap smartphones or cellphones online where these scammers post in social media sites or fake websites.
“Bale naghahanap po talaga ako ng mabibilhan ng cellphone gawa ng ipapadala ko ang luma kong cellphone sana. So nakakita ako online, nagchat ako, nagre-reply agad sila sa akin,” according to Rosemarie from a report by Marie Yang of TFC.
Rosemarie is only one of several OFWs in Taiwan scammed by the cheap online selling of smartphones / cellphones.
Aside from the victims' money being stolen from the online selling scam, their identification was even used in another modus.
Manila Economic & Cultural Office (MECO) said that they have a lead on where are the scammers with the help of Taiwan police.
"Marami ng nabibiktima sa social media...marami tayong naririnig na fraud cases because pagpasok nila sa social media na hindi muna vine-verify,” according to MECO Assistance to Nationals Deputy Nestor Mayo.
If you think you are a victim of a scam or fraud can call Taiwan's National Police Agency's hotline 165 to report.
