Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) said that Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) are soon to be allowed to enter Taiwan following high-level discussions with Taiwan's Ministry of Labor.
The process of ending restrictions was ongoing and that details had yet to be confirmed, MOL said.
The high level meeting was between Minister of Labor Hsu Ming-chun and MECO Chairman and Resident Representative Wilfredo Fernandez.
Fernandez said the meeting centered on his continuing bid for Taiwan to reopen its borders to OFW as well as to alleviate their plight and working conditions.
There were about 5,000 stranded Filipino workers were waiting to enter Taiwan.
Taiwan will likely to reopen its doors to OFW after the celebration of the 2022 Lunar New Year when more quarantine facilities are expected to be available.
Fernandez thanked the Taiwan government for providing one of the best working environments for migrants, regardless of nationality. (Photo: Presidential Photo)
