The Philippines and Taiwan are already discussing the possibility of having a visa-free travel policy for citizens of the two countries.
Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) Chairman Silvestre Bello III announced this at the Laging Handa public briefing.
Bello said he was in talks with Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) Chief Michael Hsu and one of the issues discussed was the possibility of the Philippines addressing the visa-free implementation for Filipinos going to Taiwan.
“Iyon ang pinag-usapan nga namin ni Ambassador Hsu last Tuesday, na pinag-usapan namin iyan tungkol sa reciprocity ng visa-free travel ng ating mga kababayan sa kanila at iyong kanilang citizens papunta rito,” Bello said.
It will be recalled that Taiwan implemented a visa-free policy in the Philippines in November 2017 but Taiwanese visiting the country are still required to obtain a Philippine visa.
Bello said they are already in talks with the TECO Chief and made sure to announce whatever the outcome of their meeting will be regarding the issue.
