3 Filipinos dead in Lian Hwa Foods factory fire in Changhua, Taiwan

Seven employees, including three migrant workers from the Philippines, perished in a food factory fire in Changhua County, central Taiwan, on Tuesday. Four other workers were seriously injured.

One man, age 30, and two women, one age 29 and the other unidentified as of press time, were among the Filipinos killed in the Lian Hwa Foods Corp. factory fire, according to Changhua County Fire Bureau, which declined to give their names in English.
Two men and two women who worked for the corporation in Taiwan perished in the fire.

22 employees were trapped in the building when the fire started at around 6 a.m.; firefighters weren't notifiedd of the incident until around 6:45 a.m.

The large number of fatalities could have been caused by heavy smoke that was in the warehouse there before the employees hid or later spread to the area, the bureau noted.
