Taiwan's Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) will begin awarding a NT$5,000 (PHP 9,188) subsidy to overseas independent travelers who win lucky draw prizes upon their arrival in Taiwan in May. The total number of recipients will be limited to 500,000.
According to the MOTC, the campaign is meant to attract more international tourists to Taiwan. More information will be released this week.
Before arriving, foreign independent travelers must apply to enter the lucky draw. According to CNA, the lucky draw will take place at five different locations: Taoyuan International Airport Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, Taipei Songshan Airport, Taichung International Airport, and Kaohsiung International Airport.
Cruise passengers do not qualify, according to the Tourism Bureau, because they are considered group passengers not independent travelers.
According to CNA, the MOTC stated that domestic and foreign travel operators who recruit or welcome abroad tour groups for two nights and three days or longer will receive a maximum prize of NT$50,000, based on the group's size and trip duration.
